Trauma, Resilience, and Healing:
Empowerment through Communication Research
What my research is all about
I’m a communications professional with both industry and academic experience. I was an assistant researcher, lecturer, and communication specialist at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I spend my time between San Diego and Santa Barbara (but will happily travel everywhere and anywhere). I’ve spent the past five years studying communication, narrowing my focus on resiliency and trauma. I’m also well-versed in business marketing, specializing in social media and brand development.
You may be wondering how my research foci on resiliency, compartmentalization, and trauma connect with what I do professionally. I approach research from an interdisciplinary perspective, primarily drawing from Health Communication and Interpersonal Communication, whilst also applying what I learned in my schooling and experience in business. My professional services in marketing and media are not solely focused on profit, but on the people and the connections that we cultivate. Communication studies are multi-faceted and affect every aspect of our lives!
Communications can be really complicated! However, I truly believe we all have the ability to overcome obstacles, build resiliency, and achieve success - no matter what hurdles may stand in our way. With communication, we can understand and empower one another to be our best selves. I believe that we all have the ability to become skilled and effective communicators in both our personal and professional lives - as Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj said, “Whatever happens, happens to you, by you, through you; you are the creator, enjoyer, and destroyer of all you perceive.”
